    Reporting to the Head of School, The Calverton School in Huntingtown, Maryland, is seeking a part-time School Counselor for the 2024-25 school year. The School Counselor is part of the Student and Learning Support Program team. The counselor will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health referrals, as needed.

    Responsibilities and Essential Functions

    • Evaluate and assess students for mental health concerns and the need for support
    • Provide short-term individual counseling as well as process-oriented and topic-driven group counseling; crisis intervention, including suicide and threat assessment
    • Provide case management for students as appropriate
    • Communicate with families when appropriate; maintain communication with outside professionals with appropriate informed consent
    • Make referrals for outside therapy, psychiatric evaluation, or other mental health-related assessment and treatment
    • Consult with colleagues regarding specific student and community concerns
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or related field. A master’s degree and coursework in School Counseling is preferred.
    • Experience working as a counselor, general education teacher, or positive behavior support specialist.
    • Understanding of a wide variety of counseling techniques and strategies and ability to tailor treatment modalities to individual student needs.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, families, and students.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
    • Ability to meet and manage deadlines.
    • Demonstrates initiative, judgment and problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrates a commitment to inclusive and equitable practices.
    • Educational philosophy that aligns with the mission, values, and vision of Calverton.
    • Proficient user of technology.
